I've been at UBC for the past 1.5 years, and with my third set of finals hitting me like a truck, Iâve decided it's finally time to come back here. It's been a long time, hasnât it? Maybe I'll post more here, who knows.
I do want to announce a thing I did (for the 2 of you that give a fuck), I've been working on a webapp for the iPhone OS Obscura project! It's more or less on maintenance mode at the moment, but you can check it out at the link in the previous sentence, or at iphoneosobscura.litten.ca.
Life Update #2
So yea, time for another one of these.
I've been doing a lot of things on Discord lately, it's been kinda boring.
On a completely different note, I've bought a "new" computer! It's actually a 2012 15" MacBook Pro, the one with a disc drive.
I have not moved on to a privately hosted webpage, sadly.
I'm also working on a game! You can find the source code here.
Well, see you in another few months.
Real-Life Activities
Hey everyone, just wanted to catch up on what's been going on in my life.
I've started Grade 12, and it's going exactly how I expected. No major change to my marks. I've also applied to a few universities; UVic, UBC and U of A. For the latter, I got accepted (probably by the computer) literally two days after sending in my application LMAO.
UBC application was hard AF though.
To be honest, I kinda forgot this blog existed. I might move to a self-hosted website soon, I have the hardware to do it, more or less.
Also, I've gotten back into rock climbing after a 3 year break! I forgot how fun it is, but I'm glad I'm back.
For those wondering why I haven't implemented comments in this blog, number 1, I don't want people sending me hate comments and 2, my backend is so garbage it might be a security risk XD.
Well, I'll see you whenever I have anything to post about. I'm probably going to delist most of my older posts soon.
EDIT: As of the time I post this update, most older posts have been hidden.
More Blog Updates
I have now added the ability to see when a post was last updated and when a post was created!
Note that this does NOT retrospectively apply to old posts, however, if they are updated that information will be added.
I have also added the ability to hide posts.
Backups have been made
With some recent issues with my web hosting provider, I'm now creating backups of my entire website every now and again.
I also realized that my method for backing up posts had some issues. I'm backing them up to this folder. I'm making it public so you can see how posts are structured, and maybe make your own form of this blog!
I may eventually post source code but until then, you can try figuring it out.
A Small Apology
Some of you web inspectors out there might've noticed something weird about the request list: there are ~10 requests to http://clpblogimages.ueuo.com/. This is due to a recent change with my blog, as this is now, as the name suggests, where I put my media for my blog. The problem is, some of the images used weren't copied across, so some of the images (~10) will have errors. This post is a relatively good example of it, as there is an invalid image there. I will be fixing these images in the near future, so sometimes the blog may seem laggy or otherwise.
EDIT (12/24/2021): I have found a backup of these files, so now I am going to be fixing these errors.
Light Painting
Light Painting is a photography technique where you starve the camera of light with a long shutter speed, and move a light around in its time. The results are interesting:

As you can see, these are just random images. Here is something interesting:

A Development Notice
If anyone has been paying attention, there has been a small quantity of minor performance increases, and for those unlucky enough to witness, an issue with the Posts page. For those of you who pay attention to source code, the source code will have changed significantly in the past two days. There has also been a minor speed change and this website is much more compatible. This is because I have switched from my earlier, client-based engine to a sever-based engine. For those of you who don't know, client-based scripting is when the client, your web browser, does the work. Server-side scripting is done by the, well, server. It kinda works like this: when your browser makes a request to the server, the server runs any server-side code, and returns the result to your browser. After this, your browser runs the client-side code. Originally, this was all done in your browser, which was slow and took a while to work right. That was why the source code was so big, it needed to work with all types of browsers. Just to get the posts, I needed to use TWO commands to get it to work right with both Chrome and Edge. Just so you know, Firefox worked with both. Now, it runs on the server, which reduced the source code from about 50 lines of code for the search feature, to about 10. This also means I don't have to worry about competing Javascript standards between browsers. And yes, the editor still uses the old client-based engine, just so you know.

Exposure Triangle
Exposure is how a photo is lighted. There are exactly three parts: ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed. These are examples of how each one is used.
imageFast Shutter Speed1/1000 of a Second | imageSlow Shutter Speed1/2 of a Second |
| Either works, though smudging will occur at slow shutter speeds | |
imageHigh ISOCranked | imageLow ISOISO 100 |
| Try to keep the ISO as low as possible. Not only to high ISOs look bad, they also have high file sizes. | |
imageSmall Aperturef/22 | imageLarge Aperturef/5.6 |
| This one varies on personal style. Aperture modifies Depth of Field, which is what makes background look blurry. | |

Making A Video Game 101
The Plastic Problem
So, what is plastic? Plastic was invented in the 1950s, and is made using oil. Plastic is currently used to make anything from phones to water bottles to bags of chips. So, what's so bad about plastic? The thing is, plastic is not biodegradable. Plastic breaks down into tiny microplastics, which are horrible to the environment, and, the process of plastic becoming microplastics takes forever. The process takes so long that animals get involved. Fish mistake plastic beads with eggs. Birds starve with a plastic-filled stomach. Marine animals get tangled in plastic nets and bags. In fact, majority (82%) of plastic goes to the environment; 11% gets incinerated and only 7% is recycled. The rest gets dumped in either landfills or the environment. Some people believe that the problem will only get worse because making new plastic is cheap, recycling plastic is expensive, and dumping plastic into the environment is "free".
imageSo, how can we prevent this? We can do three things: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Now, lets talk about specifics. To reduce, we can buy less things in the first place. For example, a lot of places are banning plastic straws because you really don't need plastic straws, and when you do, do you really need to use plastic in particular? There are the obvious ones to reuse, like refilling water bottles, but there are less obvious ones, such as reusing plastic water bottles as bird feeders, stand up bags for plants, and pill bottles as storage containers. Recycling is painfully obvious. Find a recycling center.
Note: This is an O-L-D English Languange Arts assignment, so while the message is still somewhat valid, take my writing with a grain of salt
Post Procssing
Post processing is what improves or breaks a photo. It is manually editing a photo on a computer. I will list a few photos, before and after editing, and what I edited.

All images from GoogleApeture
You know those photos with the blurry background? They have a large aperture. Aperture is how large or small the lens is, like this:
image
It controls how large the range of depth is. Annoyingly, it also effects light. The best way to fix this is by shutter speed. Here is my example of aperture:image
Light Graffiti
Light graffiti is when you use a light to paint in the air, kinda like this:imageYou get it by exposing the camera to light for a long time. Shutter speed can do this. With light grafitti, I made these drawings/names:

Exposure
Lighting is not just the lighting outside; exposure changes how it looks on the camera. Here are underexposed, overexposed, and well-exposed photos I took:image
Anti-Bullying
I feel that bullying sucks like a baby, so I have come up with these posters to share this point:
